Nuclear Power vs. Other sources of power

Half of the electricity generated in the United States is generated with coal. With the growing concern over the use of coal and its impact on the environment, we need to develop other “clean” sources of power.

Nevada is a great state for geothermal power, and we support continued expansion of that.

While solar and wind sound good, they do not supply power 24/7, so they can not be used for base load power.

Then there’s cost. The comparison of prices below shows you the cost of various forms of energy:

Monthly Cost

Nuclear 1.7 $21.25
Pulverized Coal
7.1 $88.75
Natural Gas Combined Cycle 7.8 $97.50
Geothermal 9 $112.50
Wind 11.4 $142.50
Biomass 11 $137.50
Solar – Thermal 21 $262.50
Solar – Photo Voltaic 111 $1,387.50
